Tastier Pork, non-gmo and vaccine free

Our pigs are raised on pasture and forest with supplemental food as needed.  Some of the healthiest and tastiest bacon you will ever have!  But, don't just take our word for it.  Here is a whole article about how pork does not need to be a bland flavorless meat and how Woodlot pork is the answer.

Healthier Pork

Our pigs are raised on pasture and forest with supplemental food as needed.  Some of the healthiest and tastiest bacon you will ever have.

Loren Cordain (PhD. and Founder of the Paleo Diet Movement) explains that, “Because pigs are monogastric animals (single stomach), they have the ability to convert vegetable and plant 18 carbon fatty acids (ALA) to the 20 and 22 carbon fatty acids (EPA and DHA) which reduce inflammation, reduce cardiovascular disease and promote good health for us all when we eat pork. Free ranging pork contains higher concentrations of these beneficial fatty acids than are found in their feed lot produced counterparts.”

In addition to higher levels of beneficial fats, pasture raised pigs provide more minerals and nutrients.  Nourished Kitchen explains that, "When pigs are raised on pasture, with access to natural forage and plenty of sunshine, their meat and fat is also richer in micronutrients, particularly fat-soluble vitamins E and D, as well as minerals like selenium (read more here). As monogastric animals, like humans, pigs make vitamin D in their skin and in their fat when they’re exposed to sunlight, making pasture-raised pork particularly rich in vitamin D."

Additionally, at Salt and Pepper Farm we use no unnecessary antibiotics or growth simulators on our pasture-raised pork.

Happier Pork

At Salt and Pepper Farm we let our pigs live their lives in natural landscape such as forests and pastures with plenty of fresh air and sunshine.  They are rotated to new land regularly to balance the disturbance and rest to the land.  This gives pigs constant sources of natural food (along with supplemental feed), shelter, access to land to perform natural pig behaviors such as roaming, rooting and wallowing.  In addition, Salt and Pepper Farm does not dock tails, clip teeth, notch ears, or install nose-rings on our pigs.
