Treating our Ladies Right.
Tastier Eggs
Our happy healthy birds live the best life outside and you can taste the difference!
Healthier Eggs
Happy Hens make Happy Food. Take a look and see the difference between what a pastured hen produces from what people normally buy at the store. You can clearly see the difference, but it’s not just looks. Research has shown that compared to official U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) nutrient data for commercial eggs, eggs from hens raised on pasture, like our ladies are, may contain:
• 1/3 less cholesterol
• 1/4 less saturated fat
• 2/3 more vitamin A
• 2 times more omega-3 fatty acids
• 3 times more vitamin E
• 7 times more beta carotene
Happier Egg Layers
We have happy Hens. In the spring, summer and fall our ladies live in mobile coop with access to fresh pasture during the day. At a minimum they are moved to new pasture every few days. Moving days are especially exciting for our ladies as they love running around searching for new bugs. After the initial feast they slow down and take their time scratching and searching for additional tasty treats. Supplemented with feed, our ladies get plenty of food, water, fresh air, sun, shade and grass. In the winter they move into our greenhouse to stay warm for the winter but still enjoy the seasonal slowdown natural for winter (no artificial lights manipulating our birds internal clocks). Below you will find a couple pictures of our happy ladies.
